Day 84
Deuteronomy 15–16 | John 14:1–14
“Let not your hearts be troubled.” (John 14:1)
Easier said than done.
Especially when the way ahead is cloudy. When prayers go unanswered. When uncertainty feels heavier than faith.
Thomas voiced what most of us are too polite to say out loud:
“Lord, we do not know where You are going. How can we know the way?” (John 14:5)
I love that question—because it’s raw, honest, and painfully relatable.
And because I’ve felt that too.
When the roadmap disappears. When the outcome is unclear. When you sit in the waiting and wonder if you somehow missed a turn.
I’m in that season now—and like Thomas, I find myself saying, Lord, I don’t know the way.
But Jesus doesn’t scold him. He doesn’t demand blind confidence.
He gives him something better than directions:
“I am the way, and the truth, and the life.” (John 14:6)
Not a list of steps.
Not a strategic plan.
Just Himself.
Because in the kingdom of God, the way forward isn’t a path.
It’s a Person.
Trusting a God You Can’t Always Trace
Jesus was preparing His disciples for a future they didn’t yet understand. One filled with loss, confusion, and what would look—at first—like defeat.
But He wasn’t worried.
He knew what they didn’t: that resurrection was coming.
And in the meantime, their job wasn’t to control the outcome.
It was to trust Him.
That’s what Deuteronomy 15–16 is about too.
God tells His people how to live when they get to the land He’s promised.
And the instructions are… radical.
Cancel debts every seven years.
Free your slaves and send them away blessed.
Bring your absolute best to the Lord.
Celebrate His goodness with joy.
Give generously—and don’t be stingy about it. (Deuteronomy 15:10)
That kind of obedience doesn’t make sense in a world that says, “Take care of yourself first.”
But God was teaching them something deeper.
You don’t have to hoard when you trust the Giver.
You don’t have to panic when you know the Provider.
You don’t have to know the next step when you’re walking with the Way.
The Way Is a Person
Thomas wanted a map.
Jesus gave him Himself.
And I need that reminder too.
Because I like answers.
I like plans.
I want to know how it’s all going to work out.
But what I need isn’t a clearer picture of the path.
It’s a clearer view of the Person who walks it with me.
He’s the Way.
He’s the Truth.
He’s the Life.
He doesn’t always answer all my questions.
But He is always enough.
When Faith Means Moving Without Clarity
There’s a phrase tucked in Deuteronomy 15 that grabbed me today:
“There will never cease to be poor in the land. Therefore I command you, ‘You shall open wide your hand…’” (Deuteronomy 15:11)
God doesn’t promise ease.
He doesn’t promise resolution.
He promises Himself.
And then He calls us to live in complete confidence that He’s enough:
To open wide our hand.
To walk forward in trust.
To live with open hearts and joyful worship—even when nothing is certain.
That’s what faith looks like.
Not having all the answers.
But staying close to the One who does.
The Heart That Isn’t Troubled
Jesus never said, “Let not your circumstances trouble you.”
He said, “Let not your hearts be troubled.”
Because even in the storm, your heart can rest.
Even in the unknown, your soul can be steady.
Even when you don’t know the way forward, you can walk with confidence—if you’re walking with Him.
So today, if you don’t know where the road is going…
Take heart.
Because He hasn’t just paved the Way for you. The Way is Who He is.
Lord, I don’t need all the answers. I need You. When I feel lost, remind me that You never are. Help me trust—not in the outcome—but in the One who holds it. You are the Way. You are the Truth. You are the Life. And that is more than enough. Amen.
